A Bridge of Art and Community
Join us for a day dedicated to celebrating the amplitude of Latin American artistic expression. Latin American House is committed to being an open stage that builds bridges between diverse cultures and creative forms. We are a platform where cultural heritage is honoured alongside bold, new ways of communicating and connecting.
1. CONTEMPORARY DANCE: BETWEEN BODIES AND BORDERS (16:15 - 17:05)
A powerful showcase of five short works that blend movement, language and film to explore the human experience of crossing borders.
Featuring Mexican artists @__damm, @oddalys______, @lesly.aavendan0, and @tanyarojasmg.
Featured Works:
"Between Bodies and Borders" (Damara Velázquez): Rethinking communication through contemporary dance and sign language, challenging the dominance of verbal language.
"Añorando" (Oddalys Salcido): A ritual screendance exploring how people of colour use magic for survival, healing, and bridging loss and memory.
"Desarraigo/Uprooting" (Lesly Avendaño): A personal journey through the three stages of migration: Change, Conflict, and final Adaptation/Empowerment.
"Covered in Spicy Salsa" (Tanya Rojas): An examination of Latina identity in a foreign country, searching for home in dance and food while navigating external expectations of "Latin-ness."
"Homes in Transit" (Tanya Rojas): A look at how our bodies carry an atlas of movement and memory, revealing that identity is never fixed but always moving and migrating.
2. SAMBA (17:15 - 18:00)
Next, take a Samba Class to loosen up and prepare for an authentic Roda de Samba with @imperiodarainhaoficial—winners of the Notting Hill Carnival in their category!
🍽️ FOOD: You can enjoy dishes available at the local Brazilian restaurant @kaipirasrestaurant.
